Misunderstandable heart
“…give me understanding according to your word.” – Psalms 119:169
The clowns were performing to entertain and make the spectators laugh at a circus. Being engrossed in their performance, the crowd forgot themselves. They admired and enjoyed the actions of the clowns with a hearty laughter. Suddenly, the owner of the circus came forward and announced that the crowd must quit the tent immediately as the tent was on fire. The audience were not responsive. They thought that it was also said for fun and they laughed all the more. The circus company owner begged them to run as fast as they could. Soon the flame engulfed the tent completely. Then only the audience realized the situation. But as it was too late, only a few could escape without burns. But most of them were burnt alive.
The Bible incident of Lazarus and the rich man is a well-known parable of Jesus found in the gospel of Luke. An unnamed wealthy man led a life of extravagant luxury. Outside the entrance of this rich man’s house was lying an unfortunate man full of sores called Lazarus who only hoped “to eat what fell from the rich man’s table.” The rich man was unsympathetic to the poor Lazarus. He showed neither love nor compassion to him. He was merciless because he did not understand with his heart. Both met their end and passed on to the afterlife. Lazarus was welcomed into heaven while the rich man was condemned to hell. When the rich man saw Lazarus in the bosom of Abraham, he requested Abraham to send Lazarus back to earth to warn his brothers to atone for their sins. But it was not possible.
In the above-mentioned incidents people ruined without understanding because of their love for unworthy worldly pleasures. The rich man did not think about God who bestowed him with wealth. He was not able to understand with his heart till his death.
Beloved ones, we need to have an understandable heart. If we have understanding, we will be able to extract the meaning out of information. Our life on the earth is short and fleeting. Let us live with understanding and clear conscience as our days are numbered. Let us help the people who are around us to the utmost of our ability. Let us reflect the love of Jesus to the helpless and abandoned ones. If we are without understanding till the day of damnation, how can we flee from fierce anger?
