Eloquence

“…I think myself happy…because today I shall answer for myself before you…” – Acts 26:2

Church of God experienced dark days down the centuries. Worship was offered to angels and human beings. In the 15th century Martin Luther who was called Paul II brought a great reformation in churches. He boldly pointed out the church practices and doctrines which were totally against the worship taught in the Bible. Luther sparked the reformation by posting, according to tradition, his “95 Theses” on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany. These “Theses” were a list of statements that expressed Luther’s concern about certain church practices.

His ideas quickly spread throughout Europe. He was given threat to his life by the high officials of the church but he was fearless. The Pope condemned Luther’s writings. He was asked to recant his writings. When he refused, he was excommunicated. A series of commissions were convened. Wherever he was taken for a trial, he was undaunted and stood witnessing. He answered prudently and eloquently and preached the truth and bore testimony to Jesus Christ.

In today’s Scripture portion we read that apostle Paul was accused and summoned for trials. He was brought before Festus, then Felix and later to king Agrippa. Paul was threatened by the priests and the chief men of the Jews. As Paul said he had become all things to all men that he might by all means save some. Wherever he was inquired, he answered very prudently and made use of those opportunities to proclaim the gospel so as to save a few.

Beloved in Christ, we have been encountering lot of troubles and problems in preaching the gospel to the present generation. The faithful witnesses borne by Martin Luther and apostle Paul are a source of inspiration and encouragement. Without getting weary, receiving grace and wisdom from God, let us go ahead in the ministerial path. May God give us grace to overcome the challenges we encounter in proclaiming the gospel.
