Give Freely

"...Freely you have received, freely give" - Matthew 10:8

A British army commander was very concerned about whether his soldiers were doing their duties properly. Those who did not do their duties properly were not pleasing to the country and God. Everything we have was given to us by God and the country. He always said that we should give it to God and the country and pay for it. He noticed that the light in his soldier's room was on after the specified time, so he went to that room. There, a soldier was sleeping, leaning on the table. On his desk was a piece of paper that said, "I owe so much, who will pay for me?" The commander saw the paper and signed, "I will pay it." The army knew that the commander was not only a man of words but also a man of deeds. In what ways do we honour God today, whether in words or deeds? Let's think!

Everything God has given us is free. The Lord Jesus Christ says, "Give freely what you have received freely." Jesus Christ has given us many things freely. He has given us faith, salvation, the Holy Spirit, and all the blessings of the world.

The Lord wants us to receive and act as givers of what He has given us. Do we give to others what God has given us? Do we hide it away like the man who had one talent? In the Bible, those who knew how to give became beloved, friends, and people after God's heart. Among these were Abraham, Isaac, David, Joseph, and the early apostles. There are the woman who gave two coins, the boy who gave five loaves and two fish.

In the Bible, we see how those who bought and tried to buy, who lied that God knew what they had stored, and how they perished. Among these are Balaam, Gehazi, Ananias and Sapphira. Achan who took up the cursed thing. It is said in Matthew 25:31 - 46. If we are free givers, we will receive eternal life as the people on the right hand. May the Lord give us such grace. Amen.
