A fragrance in garbage

 

"Now thanks be to God who ...diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place" - 2 Corinthians 2:14

 

A pious man went to a nearby village in the Himalayas. When he reached there, the village was muddy. It smelled bad. It looked like a heap of garbage. Unable to bear the stench, the pious man left the village. A few weeks later he came back to the same village. There was no foul smell, instead fragrance. That pious man was surprised. As he saw, there were some kind of flower plants growing on top of the trash. The filthiness of the garbage remained the same, though no stench. These "fragrant flowers" masked that stench. What the pious man said when he saw this fragrant flower was, "I see the glory of the Lord in this heap of garbage."

 

"Ruth" is a woman who came out of the filthy, sinful land of Moab. Ruth means "friend". "Ruth is a rose in the thorn, a lotus in the mire"! Do you know why? Ruth was abandoned by her husband. Ruth and her aunt lived in darkness everywhere. It is under these circumstances that Ruth follows the God of Israel firmly and comes to Bethlehem with her aunt Naomi. She steadfastly followed the God of Israel. Neither circumstances, Naomi nor the devil could stop her firm faith in God. But seeing her determination, the heavens whistled. Angels sang, cherubim and seraphim played tambourines. The saints praised. Yes, Heaven approved Ruth's determination! That is why Ruth came to Bethlehem and was restored. Her life was fragrant with Boaz. This Boaz was rich, virtuous, and holy. Such was the marriage of Boaz and Ruth. It was in this Ruth-Boaz lineage that Jesus Christ, the Rose of Sharon, appeared. He is fragrant to the world. The fragrance of this rose of Sharon covered the disgust of Ruth, the Moabite woman. Jesus, the rose of Sharon, covered the filth of life with His glory. He perfumed her life.

 

Dear people who are reading this, are you also in the impurity of sinful life? Your life will blossom and smell good when you follow Jesus as faithfully as Ruth did!
