Honesty
"Providing honourable things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men…" - 2 Cor.8:21
Ray White was the greatest golfer ever. He was once preparing to hit the ball in a game of golf when he noticed the ball moving slightly. As per the rules of the match, if the ball moves, the player is penalized by having to give up a stroke. Ray White was one of the leading players who took part in the competition. The prize money of the competition is 1,08,000 dollars.
David Collagen when commenting on golfers doing whatever it takes to escape the fear of being caught, says, "If the ball moves players bow their heads and fling their hands around as if a venomous bug is coming at them, or step away from the ball and squint their eyes as if dust has fallen, while slowly peering in as if someone notices the ball moving? If no one is paying attention, they will come back and hit the ball. But Ray White didn't. Instead, he gave up one of his strokes and moved on to the next move. There were chances for him to act contrary to the truth by deceiving everyone's eyes. But Ray White, who follows honesty, did not fall for wrongdoing. Consider the beautiful words of King David in the Psalms. He says, " I was also blameless before Him, And I kept myself from my iniquity. " (Ps. 18:23). This "spirituality" is more common in those who have the certainty that God sees me. It is futile to expect honesty from those who lack the character of integrity.
In the scriptures we can read Job explaining his righteousness. When the Lord testifies about Job, he says, "He is blameless and upright, one who fears God and turns away from evil." Each of us should think about what the Lord will testify about us, who read this. David prays that integrity and honesty will protect him. How many of us are ready to pray like this? Let's love honesty. Let’s strive for this. The Lord will guide us.
