Papaya!
"If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having two hands, to go to hell" - Mark 9:43
A papaya plant sprouted in the middle of the lawn as far as the eye could see in front of Krupa's house. She was very happy. She has been closely monitoring its development. After two months, the papaya plant looked a bit droopy. As days pass, the plant becomes woody. But it was slanted. Krupa had one concern. Fear that the tree will fall down when it is about to bear the fruit. The flower then the fruit appeared and grew slowly even though the tree stood slanting, bearing ten to twelve fruits. It slowly turns green and becomes yellow and red. All the passers-by's gaze was on it. One day a poor man who passed by looked around and plucked two papayas and happily put them in his bag.
Seeing that tree, which had grown crookedly and obliquely, but had given its fruit in its time and fulfilled the purpose of birth, Kripa remembered a verse of the scripture. "Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire." The verse!
Yes, beloved, we can be as flawed as that tree. May be illiterate. It may also be in abject poverty. But if we do not have the fruits of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, self-control that the Lord expects in our lives, we too will be like a tree that is thrown into the fire. Only a fruitful life is meaningful. Didn't the papaya complete its mission by giving quality fruit to many hungry people despite its imperfect appearance? We have to get rid of the things that hinder us from living a fruitful life. Through Mark 9:47, we can know the truth that it is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye and bear fruit than to be thrown into hell with two eyes and not bear fruit. Living a life, it is necessary to act righteously, do good deeds and try to live fruitfully. At the end of each day, do we self-examine that we have made the Lord happy with what good deed we have done today?
When the time comes to meet your master Jesus, are you prepared to meet him with fruits? Will you be careful to do what the Lord wishes you that makes him happy every day? Don't make him sad with any excuse. What are you going to do to someone who gave his life for you?
