From the depths of the heart. . .

 

"…I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding" - 1 Corinthians 14:15

 

A young Christian brother was returning home on his bicycle from his night shift duty. The song he sang at that time was: I will walk on a lion and on a snake, that I have power to overcome all the power of Satan! On his way suddenly he heard a dog barking from somewhere. Immediately the boy rushed the bicycle very fast and went home catching his breath. Although it may make us laugh, do we sing from the heart with understanding? Let's think.

 

When Paul wrote to the Corinthian church, he wrote, "I will sing with the spirit and with the mind"! If so, our songs should be sung with spirit and meaning. Today we sing many more songs like this in church services and prayer meetings, confessing sins, giving thanks. But what a pity! In our practical life we fail to act as we sing.

 

Recently I happened to read an article written by a devotee. He wrote that what is said in the songs and what is practiced are opposites and that Christians are singing a lie. For example, we sing that I dared to follow Jesus. But in practical life one has to be forced to the Lord's work.

 

Beloved! Let's try to live as we sing. Some time ago we used to go to the church holding the Bible, hymn book, notebook in our hands. In the modern world i.e. Smart World, today we use mobile phone for everything and anything. Let us not sing for the sake of music, light and sound that is sung in congregations today. Let every word we sing penetrate our soul. Let our thoughts turn to God through our song. Let's cheer up those around us. So let us sing from the depths of our hearts with life to Him who gave us life as long as we live!!
