Scripture is truth
"Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day” – Psalm 119:97
At a time when the Bible was not translated into English, William Tyndale from England wished that everyone needs to read the Bible. According to the law of the Roman Catholic Church, the Bible was only in the hands of the clergy. And things contrary to the scriptures such as indulgences, idolatry, and the luxurious life of the fathers became rampant. Tyndale wanted to translate the New Testament in the hope that the common people could read the scriptures.
In 1524 he went to Germany and met Martin Luther and started translating there. Not knowing the language, he worked hard and learned it in one year. In 1525, he published his translated English Bible in Germany. He brought the printed Bibles in English to England in 1526. The British government came to know about it and burnt them as it was against Christianity.
In 1528 Tyndale was declared that he was against the government. In 1530 King Henry VIII tried to arrest him. After five years of hiding, Tyndale was betrayed by a friend, imprisoned and tortured. On October 6, 1536, he was strangled, tied to a tree, and burned alive. Then Tyndale's prayer, "God open the eyes of the English government," was heard. Three years after his death, the Bible was printed and distributed by King Henry VIII of England. Think of how many people like Tyndale have given their lives for the Bible.
My people, how do we prioritise the scriptures in our hands? We should love, read, breathe and enjoy the scriptures daily and live as instructed and taste it well. We should read the scriptures daily and live as those who sow verses everywhere around ourselves. Like Jeremiah, We consume God’s words as soon as we receive them, and may God grant us the grace to live according to the scriptures by testifying that your words were a joy to me and a joy to my heart! Amen!!
