Humility

 

"Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up" - James 4:10

 

Once when Sathushunder Singh was traveling in England, a sister said to him, "What about you, after you accepted Christ, see how you are welcomed and popular." Then he said, I think of myself as the donkey on which Jesus Christ rode. I would be a fool if I thought that the donkey that carried Christ was the one who was welcomed and glorified him. "If Christ is not in me, I am an ass!" He said! How humble he is!

 

In the Bible, Naboth the Israelite had a vineyard near the palace of Ahab, the king of Samaria. God blessed Ahab and gave him all blessing. But Ahab was greedy and did not think he had enough and wanted to obtain the nearby vineyard of Naboth. But Naboth refuses to give his vineyard because it was granted to him by his fathers. Jezebel, Ahab's wife, also stoned Naboth to death as per Ahab's wish. In that context, the word of the Lord came to the prophet Elijah and Ahab was warned by Elijah. Everything Ahab did was wrong and unjust. But the Lord, knowing that he had behaved humbly, condemned Ahab that the punishment that was to come would come in the days of his son.

 

Beloved, humility is something that should be found in all Christians. It is something that the ordinary believer should begin with, no matter how great a minister. The Lord Jesus showed His humility by washing the feet of His disciples during His days on earth. Let us be humble and not show our ego to anyone. They may be younger or older than our age. Let us humble ourselves before the Lord today, if we want His reward, His unparalleled grace. Let us receive blessings. Don't delay to be humble!!
