Spiritual maturity

 

"…when I became a man I got rid of childish things" - 1 Cor.13:11

 

God expects each of us born in Christ to grow. What to grow in? In spiritual life, in Bible reading, in good deeds, in union with God, in deep prayer life... we can go on and on. God expects us to gradually grow and become spiritually mature. What is the sign of maturity? How can it be found? If we ask, according to the old saying, "A half filled bucket will overflow; a full bucket will not hold water", those who do not grow in spiritual life will get frustrated in small things like half filled bucket. We can always hear the voice of praise like tinkling brass and resounding cymbals saying, "Why is this olny for me, as a Christian?"

 

Maturity is they will have the attitude of giving up to others. They will give up the responsibility, position and prime position they hold now and come forward to serve in any position. That is, they will have a "serving mind" to wash everyone's feet (Luke 14:11). In the Bible, even though Jonathan was King Saul's own son, he said to David, whom he loved, "You will be king over Israel; then I will be second to you" (1Samuel 23:17)! Isn't he like us?

 

Others consider themselves superior to everyone else. We regard the uneducated, the poor, the unsaved superior to us and treats them with respect and friendship. (Phil. 2:3).

 

They will be ahead of the heavy lifting. He is less than me in age, education, position and influence! So they will have the idea that first let him speak and then I will speak. This is because they don’t have any sense of pride about themselves, so they rush to honor others without any hindrance. (Rom. 12:10)

 

How about us? Do we have maturity? Or are we a child who cries and protests and complains to everyone around? Or are we spiritually mature?
