Do not grow weary

“But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.” – Hebrews 10:39 

Bennington was a famous American football player. During the successful years of his youth, he participated in all matches and performed dynamically with commitment. Thus, he was injured many times and he could not continue his participation. He underwent surgery twice for his injuries. He was under treatment and on meditation for months. He recuperated and felt better after weeks of exercise. Then he made a re-entry on the football field and began to take part in minor matches. At one stage, he was fit and in form for participating in National level matches. He received a special award for the best National football player twice that year. 

In our spiritual life in Christ, we encounter trials and struggles. In our spiritual warfare we get injured and fall down often. Sometimes we retreat and not able to advance any more. Some of us withdraw ourselves from the spiritual race disheartened as we are crumbled because of struggles. The writer of the letter to the Hebrews exhorts that we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul. When Elijah, the prophet was dejected and grown wearied, God sent an angel to strengthen him. The angel touched him and said, “Arise and eat, because the journey is too great for you.” (1Kings 19:7)

Beloved in Christ, have we drawn back from our race due to some barriers? Let us confess our trespasses and weaknesses to God. We can speak to Him with an open heart. He is the one who knows us in and out and our helper in our infirmities. We should not forget to seek God’s help to move ahead without any hindrance in our spiritual journey. He who is holding our hand is all powerful to lead us through till the very end. Hallelujah!
