Christmas gift
"…And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive" - Acts 20:35
"Dad! Suresh, who is also studying with me, is very poor. Can I buy him a dress for Christmas?" David eagerly asked his father Daniel. "We just bought the dress yesterday. Even if you had told then, we would have bought a set," said Daniel. "I'll give him one of the two sets I bought," David said before finishing, "Do you know what it costs?" shouted Daniel angrily. "Daddy! What you give to the poor is what you give to Jesus, Daddy. You have to give what is expensive. Please! He had tears in his eyes.
"If you give him one of two dresses, I won't buy new dress for New Year" said Daniel firmly. "Thanks dad," said David with a beaming face. "His son who always wants to wear new clothes talks like this," Daniel was amazed. What is Christmas? It is because the Supreme God gave His One son to this world as a gift. This is a great gift!
Even though she knew that the Jewish community would stone her to death if she got pregnant before marriage, the Virgin Mary, who heard the news from the angel Gabriel, devoted herself to give birth to the Son of God.
Astronomers, guided by the constellations, travelled far and found Jesus Christ. They brought offerings of gold to signify that the one who had been born was king of kings, white bull to indicate that he would be a sacrifice for the people of the world, and frankincense to signify that the fragrance of his sovereignty would spread throughout the world. All these things are precious.
How do we celebrate Christmas today? We celebrate by wearing new clothes, feasting, sending gifts to relatives and friends. I Didn't say its wrong. But do we think about the poor? We should also give gifts to the poor and missionaries and make them happy. Let us celebrate Christmas with a spirit of sacrifice by deciding to give from what we have and give to the suffering people. We cannot celebrate Christmas without sacrifice if we think about how great is the sacrifice of the Father who sent his beloved Son to this world.
