Celebration

 

"When they had finished the days, as they returned, the Boy Jesus lingered behind in Jerusalem" - Luke 2:43

 

A festival is a time of celebration for everyone. Were Christmas means cake, new dress, star, Christmas tree, we can go on and on. On the other hand we decorate our house with colourful lights, send Christmas greetings to relatives and do many more things! The obvious things like Christmas carols, Christmas songs, and Santa Claus will reveal the birth of Jesus as external signs.

 

Similarly, even in the days of Jesus, the Passover festival was celebrated in Jerusalem every year. Jesus, his mother, father, and all his relatives went to this festival. The child Jesus stayed in Jerusalem while returning after the feast days. His mother and father did not know this. Thinking that he would be in the company of travelers, they travelled and sought him among relatives and acquaintances. Since he was not found, they returned to Jerusalem looking for him. The reason is that Jesus was forgotten in the excitement of the festival.

 

Beloved, Jesus' mother and father forgot him. We too tend to forget the purpose of Christ's birth in our Christmas celebrations. As immersed in traditional practice, there are chances that we miss to thing about what to do to make Jesus who born in soul to be born in people living in the nearby houses, because we concentrate on many things, giving cakes and sweets to the people. And let's not forget the poor, simple people near us and the orphans, the destitute and the diverse people and help them too. Let's not forget the importance of evangelism during this festive season.
