Jesus is with us

 

"…Immanuel, which means God with us…" - Matthew 1:23

 

The Lord is with us, dwells in us, guides us, and never leaves us. Yes, the name "Immanuel" means God is with us. John decisively wrote in his Gospel, "In the beginning was the Word. The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; we have seen his glory."

 

The name Jesus means Jehovah or Yeshiva in Hebrew and "saves" in Greek. It means protection from sins, diseases, dangers, mental disturbances, struggles, poverty, hell etc. Man cannot save himself. Jesus is the only one who can change our sinful natures and make us worthy of regeneration and eternal life. He wants to live with us.

 

In the Bible the Lord God walked with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. But they separated themselves from God because of sin and hid themselves because of guilt, fear and shame. Even today, it is our sins that keep us from walking with God and making God unable to be with us!

 

We have the blood of Jesus shed on the cross and the assurance of forgiveness of sins to remove the barriers of sin found in us and renew our relationship again, to live closer to God. Those who confess their sins and receive forgiveness will have a new experience. We can have the experience of Eden. "Behold, the dwelling place of God is among men, and he will dwell among them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. (Revelation 21:3) What a wonderful promise!

 

O ye who are mine, let us examine ourselves and be washed with the blood of Immanuel and live with God. God is with us. Amen!
