Joseph

 

"…In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven" - Matthew 5:16

 

We can find three Josephs in the Holy Bible. The first one is Joseph in the Old Testament. Next is Joseph, the husband of Mary, the mother of Jesus. (Matthew 1:9-20) Third, Joseph of Arimathea (Matthew 27:57) The Hebrew word Joseph means "he gathers."

 

First, when we read about Joseph in Genesis, we know the paths he took in his youth. However, he accepted his brothers who betrayed him during the famine and gave them the land of Goshen to stay in the land of Egypt. He did not feel enmity against them considering the atrocities they had done to him. Instead, God sent me before you to support you and keep you alive was his word.

 

Second, when Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ, was engaged to Joseph, he found out that she was pregnant, Joseph, being righteous, planned to secretly put her away. But when the angel came to Joseph and told him to take Mary as his wife, we see that he immediately obeyed and took Mary with him.

 

Third, let's look at Joseph of Arimathea. We see that after Jesus Christ died on the cross, he bravely went to Pilate to ask the body of Jesus and bury it in his new tomb that he had cut out of the rock for his family. That is, he included Jesus Christ as one of his family.

 

We see that these three lived up to the meaning of the name Joseph. Is our life living up to our name today? We who claim to be Christians should be Christ-displayers and Christ-declarers. Our life should be an example to many. Let us live in this world as living witnesses and strive every day to inherit eternal life.
