Rejoice in the Lord

 

"...for the joy of the LORD is your strength" - Nehemiah 8:10

 

A large number of prisoners were kept in a small cell, in Romania. An evangelist was also imprisoned for proclaiming Christ. Except him, none of the other prisoners knew Christ so was not believers of Christ. There were always fights and problems between them. But the evangelist lived joyfully and patiently showing Christ in the midst of all the hardships and sufferings in prison. Everyone's attention turned to him. What's the secret behind being happy and excited always? They asked. He said that Christ is the joy and strength of my life. Each of the prisoners accepted Jesus. Immediately, the Romanian government severely beat the evangelist and put him in solitary confinement in a dark room and tortured him. Yet many prisoners accepted Jesus and became witnesses.

 

Even in the scriptures, Paul and Silas sang praises to the Lord even though they were bound in their hand and foot inside prison. They rejoiced in the Lord. They lived what they preached as the gospel. So, when the prison doors were opened and no one thought to escape, even when all were freed. He said, "Rejoice in the Lord always, be happy" (Philippians 4:4). He also lived and led model for us to follow. Therefore, he not only established many churches but also wrote many epistles. They were approved by the Holy Spirit and are included in the scriptures.

 

We have no such difficulties. We are living comfortably in our country. There is no doubt that when we can show Christ to others with extreme joy and strength, we will turn many people away from the path of hell and lead them straight to the kingdom of heaven, reap abundant soul harvest and receive abundant fruit in Christ's kingdom. Let us live as people who show Christ, not just proclaimers.
