Lift up

“For if they fall, one will lift up his companion…” – Ecclesiastes 4:10

Once the sport was conducted for the mentally challenged children in America. Barack Obama, the then president of America was the special guest. Eight children were standing on the track for the running race. When they had covered a short distance, one of the participants slipped and fell down unexpectedly and he was crying. On hearing his cry, all the other kids stopped running, stood for a while and turned back. They ran to the boy, lifted him and pacified him. Then they all joined together and walked together and reached the winning post. Barack Obama was moved by the inspiring sight. He gave them a standing ovation. The spectators also stood up and gave a big round of applause to appreciate them. 

We should keep in mind what we read in the Holy Bible. The word of God says, “Those who are strong ought to bear with the scruples of the weak.” Apostle Paul in his epistle to Romans, in chapters 14 and 15 insists that we must bear others burden. Raising those who are bowed down and oppressed is a divine ministry. In Luke, 10th chapter the Samaritan lifted up the bruised man with compassion. He stopped his journey and took care of the man who was wounded and left half dead. He carried him and set him on the animal and brought him to an inn and looked after him tenderly. Thus, the Holy Bible often denotes the vital importance, of lifting the wearied and fatigued no matter what the reasons for their conditions were. Sometimes we need to go out of our way to receive the weak.

Dear friends, we the children God must carry out the basic concept of lifting up the fallen and the weak we meet in our lives. We may see such people in our workplace, institutions and missionary fields. We need to help them up. God will be well pleased with us if we are happy helpers of the people in loss, tears and distress. In our race of life, on the way many slip and fall down due to weariness and exhaustion. So, let us stop running a while and give attention to them and spend time to lift them up.
