Fragrance

 

"…Praise be to God, who brings forth with us in every place the fragrance of the knowledge of Him" - 2 Corinthians 2:14

 

One of the most important aromatic substances grown in trees at India is the fragrant bark of cinnamon. This cinnamon has the ability to process food items. A chemical called phenol in the bark prevents bacteria from growing on the food and protects the spoiling food. So, it is mainly used to process meat. Bark also imparts a delicious aroma into the food. God has given such excellence to the natural tree.

 

In Matthew 4 Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. Then we can know that the Tempter tested Jesus with various tests. Jesus' answer to his question that these stones will be made into bread is that man shall live not only by bread but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God! Surely Jesus overcomes the tempter with fragrant words alone. During the days Jesus lived on earth His fragrance was manifested in His words and deeds and in places where He could perform miracles. Because he was filled with the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

 

Beloved, just as a cinnamon stick gives flavour to food, when God's words are in us, they become the fragrance of life. It is those words that make evil demons like bacteria loss its power. Jesus put each of us on this earth to be fragrant. Wherever we can give fragrance until the end of the time given to us, we will give fragrance. If He had given such a fragrance to an ordinary tree, would He not have given us more, created in His image, the same power?
