Be encouraged in the Lord

 

"…but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God” – 1 Samuel 30:6

 

A missionary named William Auld (1778-1815) read the entire Bible 6 times by the age of 7. He studied Tamil in two months and preached in Tamil. Born in England in 1778, he tasted the Lord's love and at the age of 17, he was running a Bible school in his area. As he became interested in doing missionary work across the sea, he decided to go to Sri Lanka and do the ministry with a group of six people. William Auld and his wife Sarah were among the group. William Auld embarked on a missionary journey with his wife, five days after his marriage. Also, his wife fell ill on the way and died within five weeks of their marriage. Her grave became the sea without a place to bury her. The leader who led this group also died on the sea voyage. When he reached Sri Lanka six months later and began his ministry, he began to evangelize in a famine-stricken area with no place to stay. Having established himself in the Lord even in a situation where everything was lost, he established 6 schools, a Bible college and a church in Pattikola area in 8 months.

 

When David and his men arrived at Ziklag they found the city burned with fire and their wives, sons and daughters were taken as captive. David was very close in this situation. Then all the people said that David should be stoned because of his abomination. David strengthened himself in the Lord his God. Then David inquired to the Lord and everything was restored.

 

Beloved! Missionary William Auld's life and David were able to continue to do what needed to be done as a result of his steadfastness in the Lord in a situation where everything was lost. Being strong in our hearts is easy when we have blessings. But if we are faced with a situation where everything is lost, let us try to strengthen ourselves in the Lord even in that situation. Surely the Lord will help us.
