Needful

 

"But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her…” – Luke 10:42

 

A French missionary named Xavier arrived at Goa in 1542. The first thing done by him was to learn the local language spoken there. He visited prisons and hospitals because he felt that the people over there needed the love of Jesus and began to sow the seeds of the scriptures among them. The verses planted in their hearts bore fruit. Many accepted Jesus as their personal savior. He also rang a bell through the streets to call children to attend classes. He felt that the children participating in those classes also needed the love of Jesus. He also taught them the love of Jesus. He also helped many needy people in the society. As he was completely devoted to the needy people, it was his mission to rehabilitate the refugees and bring peace to the troubled.

 

In the Bible we read about Hannah in the 1st chapter of Samuel. We also realize her condition and need of that mother. At the same time the Lord also had a need. We see in 1Samuel 1:15 that this Hannah cried and lamented in the church of God because of her need, pouring out her heart with tears. The needy prayer of this mother reached the ear of God. Hannah became pregnant and gave birth to a son, saying, "I asked for him from the Lord" and named him Samuel. (1Samuel 1:20) This Samuel became the first prophet in later times.

 

Beloved, Hannah’s need and Lord's need were met by the prayer of Hannah tears. As children of Jesus, let us choose Him as the good portion for the graces we need every day. And many people who are living in this world with a sigh and groaning thinking there is no one to deliver them from various problems, tears, frustration and sorrows, need Jesus today. Let you and I be the answer for the voice of the Lord who calls “ who will go on my sake to do ministry”! Let's think! And act!!
