You are the fragrance

“For we are to God the fragrance of Christ…” – II Corinthians 2:15

This is an incident that happened in the life of John F. Kennedy, the 35th president of the United States. When he was a young student, he happened to meet a Dandy who was skilled in crafting fine perfumes. Kennedy was impressed with one particular scent and he got it and wore it wherever he went. It smelt so good and the aroma was long lasting. Thus, he was identified with that fragrance. In the same manner, we have been called to be the fragrance of Christ in this world. Apostle Paul says that they are the fragrance of Christ both to the saved and the perishing.

We must manifest the Lord Jesus Christ in our life and testify about Jesus. How can we be imitators of God? If the image of the son resembles his father, we identify the child easily and ask, “Are you the son of so-and-so? Likewise, the image of our Father in heaven and the fragrance of his love must be diffused by us. This is how we become witnesses. Then being anointed by the Holy Spirit we can make our life a testimony to God. Acts 1:8 says, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to me.” 

Friends, we are to witness for our Lord and show Christ to the world. Just like the sweet fragrance of a perfume that fascinates everyone around, our good work, graceful words, good conduct, compassionate heart and inspiring nature will draw them to Jesus. If we have a reflection of God in our lives, we will have influence on others and they will see God at work in and through us. Let the light of Jesus shine through us. Let our whole life be a witness.
