Ungrateful son

"Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, And despise not thy mother when she is old” - Proverbs 23:22

Judy and Peter lived in a small village where there was no progress in civilization, education or industry. They were poor farmers. A beautiful baby boy was born to them after 20 years. They named him Sam and pampered him a lot. In that village there was no schools, they enrolled their son in a school 5 miles away, dreaming that he should study and become a great graduate. His parents were overjoyed to see him. Sam grew up, and finished his school. He has to travel 20 miles by train to go to college.

As they did not have enough money to admit Sam in college, they fasted in the morning and saved the money to send their son to college. After a month, the parents wanted to see their beloved son. Not having enough money to pay for the trip, Peter took his old hollow horse carriage and went alone to see his son. On the way, since he could not afford for stay in an inn, he laid on his hollow horse carriage on the side of the road and somehow went to college. When he reached he saw, young boys and girls were happily going to college wearing fashionable clothes. They all mocked at Peter who standing in dirty clothes with a hollow horse carriage. This guy went to them and enquired asking did you see my Sam? Sam also arrived at that time. He ran and hugged and kissed his beloved son. But he turned away and said, "Old man, who are you?" He humiliated his father by saying that in front of all the students. The father was shocked to hear this. His heart was broken. He came home in agony and laid with his head on his chair. That's all, the ungrateful son's harsh words left his broken heart intact.

Dear brother and sister! Aren't you also angry with Sam! Make your parents happy by thinking about how many times you too have hurt your parents by disobeying them. That will be the blessing to you.

- Mrs. Jeeva Vijay
