Centurion

 

"...I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith…" - Luke 7:9

 

When we hear or see an extraordinary event performed by some we are surprised. If someone can surprise Jesus Christ himself by his character, doesn't it surprise us too? Yes, the one who surprised Jesus Christ is the centurion. Although his name is not mentioned in the scriptures, his good deed deserves to be written in the scriptures. By comparing his life with ours, will we strive to live as one who please God?

 

* Although the centurion was a commander, he loved his servant. It is no wonder that if he sought Jesus for the welfare of his wife and children. But he prayed to the Lord for the servant. Is our thinking, attitude and action like this? Are we concerned about those who work in our homes?

 

* Although he was a gentile, he loved the Jews and built a church for them. Look at his broad mindedness! He was generous and had the intention to do good deeds for others beyond his racial and caste sentiments. Will we also be with a broad mind rather than acting within a narrow circle as we, ours, our race.

 

* “Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof" He humbled himself and sent his friend. When we pray, we humble ourselves before God; But in our daily life we are unwilling to humble ourselves before men. It is difficult for us.

 

* He had unshakable faith in the word of the Lord that " 

but only say the word, ". Today we believe in false promises made by men. But let us think how much we believe in the scriptures.

 

Although the name of the centurion is not mentioned in the Bible, it is in the Book of Life. We do not need to be famous in this world but let us live as a witness so that we can find a place in the book of life.
