Assam

 

"Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?" - Romans 8:35

 

The state of Assam consists of thousands of tribal people. They are skilled hunters. There not even a single person who does not know the song "I have decided to Follow Jesus". This song was sung by a martyr on his verge of death in Assam. These are the lines of one saved person who lived and died for the faith with the courage that no suffering could separate him from the love of Christ.

 

A missionary sent by the American Baptist Mission went to minister among the "Karo" tribes. A small family with two children accepted Christ. The village leader became angry and called all the villagers. The villagers called the family who had accepted Christ and told them to give up their faith or face death. But the man said, "I have decided to follow Jesus, no turning back." "Infuriated by the man's refusal, the leader shot and killed his two children. Even then the man refused to deny his faith and so the leader shot his wife as well". Then, he pointed the arrow at the man’s forehead saying, "Your last chance," The man replied “"The cross is before me, and the world behind me." Immediately he was killed.

 

Everyone in the village thought that with the death of this man, Christianity would disappear from their village. That was not the case. The man's death shook the village leader. He could not understand what made that family to die. There is something powerful about someone who came into this world 2000 years ago to have an entire family die for him. He said, “I want to know about that god”. The news caused a stir throughout the region. Every tribal group accepted Jesus. American hymnographer William Jensen Reynolds added this hymn to the Hymn Book on 1959 Assembly.

 

Dear! Do you seek revival? Are you praying for revival? If so you need such faith and zeal. Is the revival delayed due to the absence of these?... Let us pray that such faith, zeal, and love for Christ will take hold each one of us.
