Madhya Pradesh

 

"Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom" - 2 Cor 3:17

 

The state of Madhya Pradesh is one of the largest states in India. The state is a major gateway to other states in North India. Only 0.26% of the people know the Lord Jesus Christ and live as Christians. Although Hindi is the main language, there are many Adivasi people who speak languages like Malvi. Agriculture is the main occupation.

 

In the 1800's, a group of Catholics came to Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh and preached the gospel and helped the people as much as they could and converted the area a centre of evangelism. After that, many people went to different parts of Madhya Pradesh and preached the gospel. Notable among them was Rani Maria Vathalil (1954-1995), a missionary from Kerala. She travelled around the Indore areas teaching evangelism, educating and taught social justice activities to the poor and downtrodden people. Enraged by her activities, the zamindars kept her at a place near Indore and stabbed her to death. Around 40 times, they stabbed her body with a knife. On the verge of death she gave up her life saying "Jesus". After her death, many people in that area accepted Jesus as their personal saviour. In this way, evangelical ministry started spreading in Madhya Pradesh region.

 

Even today there is a scourge of untouchability in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The so-called upper castes are making the tribal people suffer a lot. Even today there are millions of people who do not know Christ. Our ministry is taking the first step in Sikor district to meet the people of Madhya Pradesh. People walking in darkness have seen a great light. Let us go forward to proclaim Jesus, who truly brings freedom from sin and curse, according to the verse that light has shone upon those who dwell in the land of the darkness of death. Let the people of Madhya Pradesh get the freedom that Jesus gives.
