Chhattisgarh

"Ask me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession;" - Psalm 2:8

The state of Chhattisgarh was separated from the state of Madhya Pradesh on November 1, 2000 and declared as independent state with the recognition of the government. But Chhattisgarh was already part of it even before. Thus Chhattisgarh (chattis - 36, gat - hilly, rampart-like area) was a state covering 36 hilly areas. Chattisgari is the language spoken by these people.

In 1868, a missionary from Germany heard about the Satnami tribe people of Chhattisgarh state. The people of this tribe worshiped their dead ancestors as gods and were addicted to superstitions. He prayed and decided in his heart to search and meet these Satnami people in Chhattisgarh state. His name is Rev.Oscar T. Lohr and he is a medical missionary. He came to Bisrampur near Raipur and started evangelizing the people there for the first time. He did his medical ministry for the adivasi people living there and spread the love of Lord Jesus Christ. He was friendly with everyone, starting from the common people to the officers who worked in the army. Many people accepted Jesus and were baptized. He built the first church at Bisrapur. This is the first church built in Chhattisgarh. Following this, many are still accepting the Lord. Even today, many pastors and missionaries are rising up and serving the Lord. Even today Chhattisgarh remains as a backward state with 73?ivasi population. The medical, education and transport facilities are very limited. Still the Urao tribe people have no Bible in their mother tongue.

Friends reading this! Do you want to be a part of the Revival of the Indian nation like the early missionaries? We invite you to join us in whatever ministry you can. Our missionaries came from Chhattisgarh and were trained at our VMM Ragland Bible College are working as indigenous missionaries in their home state. Acts. 16:9 we read about a man from Macedonia who prayed to Paul. Similarly, there is a great need in the state of Chhattisgarh even today. Would you be willing to fulfil that need?

- Bro. Shankar Raj
