Covetousness 

 

"For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil;…" 1 Timothy 6:10

 

One of the wonders of the world, the Great Wall of China! The Great Wall is 4500 miles long, 35 feet high and 25 feet wide. It is built so secure and so glorious that the whole world marvels. No other country in the world has ever built such a gigantic wall. People from many countries come in droves to see this wall at least once in their life, which is built on top of the mountains and in the midst of nature. Do you know the purpose of building this Great Wall of China with all these features? It is that the enemy forces should not enter into this country. But beyond that, barbarians entered very easily. How was that? The wall was not penetrated or broken down, 4500 miles around. They bribed the guard guarding the fort and invaded China through the gate. A small greed act caused a big failure. The reason for this was the guard's desire for money, which was even like the story of the “Fence grazing the crops”.

 

Let's see what God teaches us through Gehazi, the servant of Elisha, the man of God, in 2 Kings, 5th chapter. After Elijah, Elisha devoted his full attention to becoming a prophet with twice of his power. But Gehazi, who had the opportunity to take position after Elisha, followed the lust for material things without restraining his spirit, and at last received the plague of Naaman. He brought down the curse not only on him but also on his descendants. He who was called to be exalted is humbled. He has become like a un walled city without restraining his spirit.

 

We should also be people of clear mind and know to restrain ourselves. Bible warns us (1 Peter 1:13). There is no doubt that small, petty material desires that are not pleasing to God can become obstacles to the great blessings in our lives. Let's give up the desire for money and get used to live content. May God bless us.
