What is the score?
"…I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” - John 14:6
A fictional story that suggests "The way to heaven is narrow". A man died and went to heaven's gate. There he found Peter at the door. Peter said to him, "If you get 100 marks, you can enter heaven." Looking at the man, Peter asked, "List out your good deeds, and I will provide your mark." The man happily said "I have only one wife, I have lived with her for 50 years. I have not cheated on her even mentally." Peter said "Oh very good 3 marks for this". The man continued, "I went to church regularly every week and I gave tithe without fail." Peter applauded and said, "Very good, 3 marks again." "I helped the elderly," said the man. Peter happily said 3 marks. The man started crying. "I can never go to heaven by my deeds, I can go to heaven only by God's grace," he cried. Hearing that, Peter said, "Get in now."
Apostle. Peter was ministering the Jews thinking that salvation was only for them. But Jesus introduces Cornelius, a Gentile. He was the ruler of a hundred in the city of Italy, and he, along with all his household, feared God, gave charity to the people, and prayed to God. Peter makes it clear that even if one is in a high position, full of piety, prays abundantly, and gives a lot of charity, he needs salvation.
Yes, my people! No matter how many good deeds we do, if we don't accept Jesus as our saviour and live a sin free, eternity cant be attained! He says, He will reward those who do good deeds with the experience of salvation when He comes in glory. God is not unjust to forget the efforts of our love for Jesus Christ! In Christ our good deeds bear fruit and ultimately eternal life. Is your flow in Christ? Or outside? Let's ponder!!
