Respect the elderly

 

"…Gray hair is a crown of splendor" - Prov 16:31

 

Mrs. Claire's mother was at a nursing home, where Stack was also staying. Whenever Claire visits her mother, Mrs. Stack will ask “Can somebody sit down and talk to me?” to those who passby, sitting in her wheelchairs in the hall with enthusiasm. She will look at everyone with longing. Claire said Hello! She waved and passed by. When she came to know that the mother was lonely and forgotten, she regretted her unkind behaviour and sat down with her one day.

 

  As soon as they started talking. Stack recounted how she lived in Germany as a child and came to America as a married young bride, with excitement in her eyes,. They discussed excitedly about the theatre where she played the piano and the specials. Claire continued to entertain mother Stack by talking to her every day. Claire was moved with tears as she testified how God was there for her whenever she faced discouragement in her life.

 

Claire thought that she would comfort the mother by her words. But it turned upside down Mrs.Claire learned many rare things from Stack. She felt that every old person was a treasure trove of many wonderful life notes, historical incidents, etc. that could not be found anywhere else.

 

Beloved! We live in a time where the elderly is neglected. We used to joke and laugh when they start to say story or talk. The Bible tells us not to speak disrespectfully to elders. God cares for them. Respect the elders in the family and spare some time for them in the midst of busy work. Then we can learn many wonderful, invaluable practical solution from their experiences.

 

Prayer: May the Almighty help us not to despise the elderly and not to cast them aside. Listen carefully to their past experiences and attain wisdom. Amen.
