Strength in midst of crisis

 

"Search me, O God... And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting" - Psalm 139:23-24

 

On 5th June 2003, my family members admitted me in Ramachandra Hospital, at Porur, Chennai. The reason was numbness in both my legs were I was unable to walk. After many tests the doctors finally gave the name of a disease. That disease is called "transverse myelitis". The protion below spinal cord called neurons has been infected by virus, so the instruction given to leg from brain and instruction from brain to leg is blocked. The response of the legs cannot be sensed by the brain. The disease is a condition in which the brain and the lower part below hip cannot do anything.

 

At the beginning, when I was saved (at age 12) I spent time in self-examination. But now (age 27-30) after my married life, husband and son were blinding my spiritual eyes more and more. I learned I had gotten used to things like a parasite few grumbles, dissatisfactions, negative statements. But now, crisis has become a great school for me. There was no time for God! Now I had more time to spend with God. The doctors also completed the treatment and sent me home saying that it was my responsibility to exercise my legs and walk. Eventhough still I was in bed. We also knew the cause of the disease which virus and which parasite has infected! So, I came home.

 

My eyes were lifted toward the harmony from heaven day and night. Praise had become my full-time job. God gave me grace to walk with the help of others. I tried to get up and walk in faith. I will set small goals for myself. I fell down many times. I prayed “God strengthen me”. God performed a miracle. I am able to do everything today.

 

Yes, problems arise in order to soften us but not to make us bitter. I remember reading somewhere that God takes us into the deep sea not to drown us, but to make us human. Troubles can last. But not forever! Times are crisis are times of revelation. Amen! Alleluia!
