Don't fight...

 

"…Woe unto thee, O Jerusalem! Wilt thou not be made clean? when shall it once be?" - Jeremiah 13:27

 

From book of Judges, we read and know that Gideon fought against the Midianites on behalf of the people of Israel and did mighty deeds for the Lord. In the eighth chapter of Judges, we read that the people of Ephraim argued with him saying, "Why did not you call us when you fought against the Midianites?" That was because, the Lord gave a vision and Gideon fought for the people of Israel. Now we see the men of Ephraim, were arguing with him to tire his mind, instead of glorifying God and appreciating Gideon. In that incident, we know that Gideon spoke humbly to the people of Ephraim and defended himself before the Lord. But these people of Ephraim have been constant fighters. If you look at the first verse of Judges 12, we see how similarly they quarrled with Jephthah as with Gideon asking, “why he didn't call them to battle”. But Jephthah did not humble himself like Gideon, instead Jephthah spoke angrily to the men and gathered his men to fight with them. Because of this, people of Ephraim were destroyed.

 

Beloved reading this, destruction is certain if we continue to be fighters like the people of Ephraim in our lives. But blessed are the peacemakers. Blessed are we when we become peacemakers, as Jesus said they are sons of God. The Lord will lift us up.

 

So let us inherit the earth by living as meek and peaceable people as Jesus said, not like Ephraim who was destroyed by constant fighting. Blessed be the name of the Lord. According to the verse, May the Lord bless us, we are assured of elevation.
