Leadership

 

"…But Saul kept silent" - 1 Sam 10:27

 

One day in 1877, during a sunday service, a call was made for those accepted Christ to come forward. As Rodney Smith walked front, he heard someone mockingly mutter, "He's a tramp." Rodney's parents were also illiterate nomads. No one thought about him. But Rodney certainly knew that God had a purpose for him. He bought a Bible and an English dictionary and learned to read and write. He once said, "The way to Jesus is not in Cambridge, Harvard, or poetry. It is on the ancient mountain of Calvary." Rodney became an evangelist against all odds. Evangelist Rodney was seen as a great minister who led many to Christ in America and Britain.

 

In today's passage from Samuel, Saul is elevated as first king over Israel We read that some of the people of Belial did not approve as King. In particular, they sneer at Saul saying that, Is this the one who is going to save us?. In the midst of this we read that “Saul was silent” . The most prominent feature of Christian leadership is that silence is often seen as the best.

 

When we read in Matthew 26:63 we read that "Jesus did not speak." Jesus remained calm, undeterred by the deadly accusations leveled against him. Leadership is not only about speaking well, elegantly and clearly, but it is enough to focus on the task at hand without paying attention to unnecessary meaningless words.

 

Beloved in Christ, the Lord wants you to abound in leadership qualities. If we practice moderation in our lives like the two incidents we have read above, it will certainly benefit us. God bless you!
