Waiting
“Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life" - Proverbs 13:12
"Waiting" is something we dislike. When we pray long time for a particular blessing but do not reveive blessing, we feel depressed. Even, we stop praying for it. When waiting for many things like work, marriage, building a house, fruit of womb we become tired. But we need not be weary of anything because we knew Jesus. In the scriptures we can see that those who waited long time received more blessings.
Hannah was childless and barren. Even though her husband showered love over her, his other wife, Peninnah kept on hurting Hannah with her words and actions. She poured out all her sorrows of her heart on the feet of Lord, prayed and made a vow. Lord showed his mercy on her and gave her a beautiful son, Samuel. He became the first prophet of Israel, anointing kings and judging the people.
Rebecca was also barren for long time. After 20 years of waiting, God gave her twin, Esau and Jacob. Two mighty nations emerged from her womb. Moreover, Judah came from Jacob and Jesus Christ from the tribe of Judah.
Similarly, Manoah's wife, who had been barren for many years, gave birth to the mighty Samson. He delivered Israel from the hand of the Philistines. Also, in the New Testament, the couple Zechariah-Elizabeth waited until they were old and became hopeless and conceived in their old age and gave birth to John the Baptist. He was a prophet who paved the way before Jesus Christ and led people to the kingdom of heaven.
Let us also wait patiently for the Lord rather than waiting for many things and getting tired. According to Isaiah 40:31 the Lord will renew our strength. Lord will give us strength to run tirelessly in the course of our lives. When the desired is fulfilled it brings great joy and peace like finding the tree of life. May the Lord himself turn our waiting into a tree of life.
