Hospitality 

 

“Be hospitable to one another without grumbling.” - 1 Peter 4:9 

 

Hospitality or serving the guests is a sign of a true Christian. Hospitality is a good way to express the love of Christ. Lazarus, Mary and Martha excelled in hospitality. Jesus Christ liked to stay in their home. A Christian household can also like that. If we are hospitable towards someone for the glory of God, it is serving God. Shall we look at a few advices about hospitality. 

 

1. We should show hospitality towards others in the same way as we do to Jesus. It is a fit serving.

 

2. Our hospitality shouldn't be for our neighbours and friends but for poor an disabled.

 

3. It is a good habit not to speak ill about the guests after they leave. Let us avoid speaking ill about them no matter how low their behavior might be. 

 

4. Hospitality is expensive, maybe it will ruin our other duties, it should be prioritized above everything. 

 

5. It is unnecessary to prepare an expensive or flashy meal. It is best to serve even a simple meal wholeheartedly. 

 

6. Our motive shouldn't be to express self-pride. We should do this filled with the love of Christ but not to gain name and fame.  

 

My dear! Invite the newcomers to your church for a meal in your house. Though we might have other engagements, it will make them happy if we pause all those and invite them and express our love towards them. Most of them will become the members of the church based on the first impression. Shouldn't we do something like this for the church of Christ?
