Blessing bestowed by God

“The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, And He adds no sorrow with it” - Proverbs 10:22

A certain king noticed that one of his guards was always happy. So, the king asked his minister how it was possible for that guard to be cheerful all the time. The minister thought for a while and then he asked the king for 99 gold coins. The minister put those coins in a gift bag and wrote the message as “King’s gift – 100 gold coins” He gave the gift bag to the guard. The guard took the bag of gift home and counted and recounted and found only 99 coins. He called out to his wife and children saying that something had gone wrong somewhere. They searched every nook and corner of the house but could not find it. He was in fret and fume. The next day seeing the guard gloomy and dejected, the king asked the minister and found the reason for his sadness. But the king was not pleased with the guard because when he had no gift in his hand, he was happy. Instead of being cheerful with the gifted 99 gold coins, the guard was sorrowful just for the loss of a single coin.

In the Bible, Naaman the commander of the king of Syria, went to Elisha to get healed of his leprosy. He went down and dipped seven times in the Jordan as he was told by Elisha and his flesh was restored and he was clean. He returned to the man of God to offer his gift but Elisha refused to accept it. But Gehazi, the servant of Elisha pursued Naaman and got a talent of silver and two changes of garments saying that he had been sent by Elisha. The leprosy of Naaman clang to Gehazi and his descendants.

God has bestowed so many blessings upon us in our life. Some people instead of being cheerful and thankful for the given gifts, they are unhappy and long after an ungranted blessing and waste their life. Are we content with our job, family, status and talents? Or do we murmur as if we had not received anything from God? There are people who like Gehazi, without understanding that the love of money is a root of all kind of evil receive curses. Bearing in mind the free gift of salvation given to us by God and unmindful of the distractions in this worldly life, let us praise God for His blessings and receive His grace.
