Nearer to the cross 

 

“...he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” - Isaiah 53:5

 

I was born in a Christian family and raised traditionally by attending family prayer, Church worship, Sunday school. I was proud to read the Bible portion quickly before anyone could do it. I had a chance to sing in a convention when I visited my grandmother for a vacation. Then what my mind started flying thinking, I'm perfect in everything. That's why I'm getting lot of opportunities. I have lot of talents and so on. In the first day's message lot of the attendees confessed their sinful life, quit smoking, alcohol and drugs, offered themselves to God. I was observing everything like a God-fearing child. My heart was broken on the second day when the love of Jesus and His crucifixion. I agreed that I am a sinner. I confessed all the sins, pride, lies and received a newborn experience. 

 

Two thieves were crucified along with Jesus. One of them said prideful things and teased Jesus. But the other listened to the words Jesus spoke on the cross, he realised his iniquities and understood that, we are punished for our sins and confessed for his sins. The result is that he received the happiness of salvation and became the inhabitant of Heaven. 

 

My dear! Like the thief who realised his sins infront of the vision of the cross, the same changed me. Yea, our pride should be broken infront of the vision of the cross. Can we compare His sacrifice or sufferings with ours? Can our works stand infront of His? Yea. let us realise our lives near the cross. Our self will surely be killed.
