It is finished

 

“Jesus… said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost” - John 19:30

 

Sixth verse Jesus said on the cross.

Sixth verse Jesus said when He was hanging on the cross is " It is finished". Let us see what did He mean by that?

 

1. Son of God's human dwelling was finished. 

To cleanse the sins from Adam and Eve, He became man, it ended when He sacrificed Himself as the guilt offering. 

 

2. Prophesies have been fulfilled. 

The prophesies of Moses and other Prophets have been fulfilled. 

 

3. Work given by the Father have been finished. 

Jesus said to his disciples "My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work." The plan for salvation was finished on the cross. So Jesus firmly said in John 17:4 "I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do."

 

Jesus said "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil", He finished that on the cross. Hebrews 9:22 says "And almost all things are by the law purged with blood and without shedding of blood is no remission.". According to that, shedding His own blood to earn salvation for us have been finished. Like this Jesus finished everything and said it is finished. It wasn't a cry of sadness but roar of victory! Peace from fulfilling the will of God!

 

Let us look at few people's last words before they finish their lives. An atheist by the name Voltaire said in his last moments "I am abandoned by God and man…I shall go to hell." 

 

D.L Moody who was used to spread Gospel around the world and brought many to Christ, in his last moments said "This is not my death, but my coronation day. My Jesus is waiting for me holding a crown".

 

How are we going to end our final days? let us think! and act accordingly!
