Do we have an understanding? 

 

“Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do - Luke 23:34

 

Jesus said the first word on the Cross:

If we think about the reason for the crucifixion of Jesus, we can find the answer in Isaiah 53:5. It says "But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities. “so including me, you, we the human beings are all the sole reason for Jesus to be crucified. On the other hand, why did Jesus plead “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do?”

 

Jews, the Pharisees and the Sadducees living at that time crucified Jesus according to their plan. We all know that they are the reason for buying Judas Iscariot, and forcing Pilate to agree with them. Pharisees and Sadducees being the seekers of God by reading and researching the verses, believed that Crucifixion of Jesus was hundred percent right. That's why Jesus pleads with the Father saying, “for they do not know what they do.”

 

The meaning of the above mentioned phrase said by our Lord on the cross was, somethings we consider as hundred percent right in our view might be hundred percent wrong in our Lord's view. But still, we have to asses ourselves that do we lack understanding in any thing. We have to pray like David did in Psalms 139:24 "And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting." Especially, we should think weather what we do us right in the eyes of God instead of our knowledge. We should seek the heart to find right understanding about this. Moreover, we should find our flaws through Bible, through others and try to rectify it.
