Unwanted devotion 

 

“And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin” - 1 John 3:5

 

A devoted father died some years ago. His son will be moved to tears whenever he thinks about his father. He will always talk good things about his father. He is considering an old bike his father used and maintaining it in good shape till date. He will often tell stories about his father raised them amid his difficulties. But he is unemployed and living off his fathers earnings. He also has some bad habits. He don't even have a tiny bit of good habits his father had. Though he remembers his father's hard life, he don't think why his father raised him facing difficulties.

 

We forget that our Lord Jesus manifested to take away our sins( 1 John 3:5) and we are moved thinking about the sufferings of Jesus. We also listen to sermons with tears. We often show interest in listening and telling stories about the sufferings of Jesus during the Lent days with a sad face. The crucifixion is given too much importance nowadays.

 

Since we celebrate Lent days, why did Jesus suffer? why was He crucified? why did He faced the shame? do we think about all these and express it in our devotion? Jesus suffered in the cross so that we can get salvation and freedom from sin. He bled so that we can be children of God and live a holy life. He accepted horrible punishment for us to reflect His characteristics in us. If we didn't consider all this, witnessing a real repentance and not live a good life, devotion in Lent days is useless isn't it?
