A reed

 

“Therefore, let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.” - 1 Corinthians 10:12

 

A big tree was standing on a riverbank. Near it were lot of reed grasses. This tree so big, spreaded its branches long and wide. It was so proud on seeing its own branches. It thought very little about the reeds. One day it shamed the reeds saying, "you have no right to be around me as you are bending over this mild wind”. One day it started raining and cyclone accompanied. This tree made fun of the reeds saying, " you will fall in this rain". Cyclone became tornado. This big fell down along with its roots. When everything is over this tree thought "even I fell down so let me see what happened to this reed". But the reeds were dancing as usual. This tree asked, "how come nothing happened to you?". It said, "I bent on the direction of the wind. So, the wind blew over me, but it didn't damage me." Reed was saved as it knew to humble itself. The proud tree fell. 

 

In the Bible, David approaches Goliath with a sling in his hand. But Goliath had lot of defenses in his hands and body. But David had some pebbles! When David fired a pebble Goliath could have defended with the shield he had in his hand. But he was standing proudly, this stone wont harm me. But this stone killed Goliath. Yea, Pride was the downfall for him. 

 

My dear reader! You might appear to be a banyan tree where you are. Be aware not despise those who appear to be reeds. If you are thinking like do you know who am I?, my job, my salary, my house, this is my doing, talent, strength, we will start to despise those around us unknowingly. This thought is the beginning of fall. Proverbs 18:12 says "Before destruction the heart of a man is haughty, and before honor is humility." Yea, let us not live with stiff neck, pride but humble ourselves. God will bless us. 

 

Prayer: My dear Lord, help me to be aware and not to despise others and meet my own demise. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
