Gods made of gold
“You shall have no other gods before me.” - Exodus 20:3
When God tormented Egyptians with plagues, they wanted to drive away Israelites from Egypt. But God wanted to bring Israelites out of Egypt with the wages they had worked for 400 years. So like Moses have said, they asked for silver and gold articles, clothes, the Egyptians gave them whatever they asked and thus the Israelites plundered the Egyptians. But sooner they made a calf out of gold they had and started worshipping it thereby committing idol worship.
Being Christians, this incident warns us about how careful should we be when managing our belongings. Children of God can use gold, silver and money: but if those were used unwise or in unwanted way, it is a sin. When do they become sin? Firstly, when we are proud about our belongings! Secondly, instead of leaning on God completely for everything and unknowingly placing our trust in the jewels, properties, bank accounts! Since are strangers and pilgrims on the earth, we shouldn't place our hearts on the riches of Egypt (this worldly blessings) and lose God's calling. (Hebrews 11:13).
My dear! are we using these worldly blessings for God or are we addicted to it? let us think. The Holy spirit speaks to us with his slow still voice "Son, Daughter our calling is your most priority". These worldly blessings might be of great help for us, but we should be careful to keep them in place, for they might become horrible lords and enslave us.
