The Israelites failed to do it

 

“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage” - Exodus 20:2

 

My dear beloved in Christ! Let us meditate on two things the Israelites failed to do. We can see lot of occasions in which the Israelites failed to follow God by Whom they received freedom and lot of good things. Let God speak to us through one such incident.

 

Midianites' hand was strong against the Israelites. Midianites destroyed their crops and took their animals. When the Midianites were oppressing the Israelites God rose Gideon. He was victorious because he was clinging to God and fought against the Midianites according to God's command. So the Midianites were oppressed hard infront of the Israelites. The country was peaceful for 40 ears during the times of Gideon.

 

Though the Israelites received goof things from God through Gideon, they didn't follow two main things. They failed to remember God. The second is they failed to do repay to the house of the Gideon for what Gideon has done to them. Instead they betrayed his house. Instead the Israelites stood with Abimelech, the son of her servant to kill 70 of Gideon's children. But Jotham the youngest son of Gideon escaped as he was hiding. People of Shechem did such horrible things to Gideon and God brought this on their heads. The curse of Jerubbaal who is also called as Gideon's son Jotham haunted them.

 

My dear brothers and sisters, The Israelites were ungrateful people and they betrayed those who did good to them. They forgot their God. Their end was cursed. Being a Christian, do not do bad to those who did good to us, and lead a qualified life to receive not curse but blessings,
