Rented house

“Paul…. in his own rented house…” – Acts 28:30

Do you own a house? What is the value of your immovable property? How much is deposited in the bank for your kids? How much is invested in gold? These are the common queries made by people around us. People are more worried about their wealth and possessions and they make endless efforts to own houses and lands. It is no way wrong to have a house of our own. But just that alone should not be our target. To have prestige, people avail home loans with high interest and lose their peace of mind. Is it a sin to own a house or car or some jewels? Not at all. But we should not become obsessed with them. It should not take priority over spiritual matter.

We read about apostle Paul in the book of Acts, in chapters 13 to 28. Apostle Paul was the one who toiled and labored much harder for Christ. He endured more persecutions and he suffered hardships. He was constantly on the move without any rest to spread the gospel. He travelled extensively. He met numerous people and was helped by many believers. But the above quoted verse assures that he led a very simple life. Staying in a rented house, he carried out his ministry. If he had the intention, he could have led a life of luxury and comfort. He renounced all pleasures and set an example for the entire Christianity.

Dear friends, having no restriction on money and with a good background, Paul could have lived luxuriously. But his only one deep concern was for God’s kingdom. Brushing aside all unnecessary worries about property and wealth, let us strive hard to lead a simple life. Paul who is one of the main characters in the book of Acts, followed a simple life with a great commission of God. What a valuable lesson for us!
