Not by your efforts alone

 

“Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.” - Zachariah 4:6

 

Brother David was explaining about the need to lead a holy life to young Samuel. But Samuel said " in this current situation, I don't believe that I can lead a holy life but I will try my best". Brother David said, "Samuel in your efforts it is impossible for you to lead a holy life, you ill fail". Samuel thought, " I said I will try but he is being pessimistic." 

 

But what brother said was right. Leading a holy life is not possible by efforts alone. It is possible through the faith of " God will protect me" and Holy Spirit. Yea, the faith that " God will make us lead a holy life" is what keeps us holy. In short, we can do nothing without the favour of God; God will not do anything without our efforts. David defeated Goliath not by his efforts alone. It was a result of David had his faith in God. We can over come our trials by the faith we have in God. God will come with us. He will give results. We will be victorious in out trials. 

 

Bible says "Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts." Yea, we can accomplish what we can't in our own strength with the help of the Holy Spirit. When we engage ourselves in deeds that please God, our faith in us will increase. Efforts added to that faith will yield great results. Joshua and Caleb held on to their faith when they entered Canaan. But the other ten spies held on to their own strength and they couldn't enter into Canaan. You will see the glory of God if you have faith.
