Ida Scudder 

 

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” - Matthew 5:16

 

Hai Children, Did you enjoy your Pongal holidays? Shall we see about a Ida Scudder who did what she can?

 

A girl named Ida was staying in a hostel and studying. One day she and her friends were chatting with each other. Mary a friend of her asked " Ida are you going to India as a missionary like your father did ?" Ida said," I don't like to go to that dirt country" Another friend named Clara told her to become a doctor like her doctor and serve God. Ida refused saying " I will never do such a thing".

 

Ida came to India for a vacation. One evening she heard a knocking sound on her door. Ida rushed to open the door. A man was standing there. He said " mam are you a doctor, my wife is suffering from severe stomach pain, please come and treat her." She said " Iam not a doctor but my dad is, so I'll inform my dad to come there once he comes home". But he said " no mam we don't allow men to treat women" and went his way. 

 

A few minutes passed by and she heard a knocking sound again. Ida opened the door to see a man saying " My wife is suffering from fever and cold, she is struggling for her life." She said the same answer and he went. She heard a knocking sound for the third time. A man was there, he said that his wife is expecting a delivery very soon. Ida said the same answer and he went away.

 

In the following morning Ida saw three bodies were carried for funeral. Then she surrendered herself to Jesus saying " Jesus I will become a doctor and save these people". Ida became a doctor and started a big hospital called CMC in Vellore in Tamil Nadu. Today they are treating for diseases there. 

 

My dear! You also surrender yourself to Jesus that you will do something!
