Daily Devotion (English) – 21.12.2022 (Christmas Special)

 

A meaningful Christmas for others. 

 

“Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others” – Philippians 2:4

 

A poor woman was working in a wealthy house. The house owner gave her son a dress and some money as Christmas present. She was returning happily home and saw a boy same age as her son and his dress was torn and also suffering from extreme poverty. She felt in her heart to give him the dress, she gave him the dress which was given for her son. She then thought to buy a dress similar to what the house owner gave her with the money in her hand. So she went to a shop, and took a costly dress and told the shopkeeper that she will somehow pay the remaining next month. But he was rude and said, how can I trust you? How many people are there with ill intentions like you? A little boy as listening to this, he said to his mom can we give the dress we bought to this aunty? In Sunday class they taught me that giving is Christmas. Her mom looked at him with a smiling face and gave the bag to her. She opened to see a costly dress inside. She thanked God happily. Yea, Heaven would have happy about the old woman, for she looked on the things of others. 

 

In today's devotion, we can read about pregnant Mary went to see old Elizabeth who was pregnant in her old age, wished her and stayed with her for 3 months. It would be of a great help for the old Elizabeth. Imagine Mary could have had the discomforts due to pregnancy. If she went to a doctor, they would have told that first three months are important, don't do hard labour. You will have dizziness, vomiting and nausea. You should eat something often possible. They would have told to be on bed rest. If Mary thought about herself, she would have come back after greeting her. She wouldn't be helpful to Elizabeth.

 

Yea, my dear! If Christ is born inside someone, we will go and be a blessing for others. We wouldn't be thinking about ourselves but others and act accordingly. It might be hard for us. But there are lot who struggles more than us. Let us seek them during this Christmas season. Let us lend our shoulder through labour, help and things. Let this Christmas be a meaningful one.
