Light for the Gentiles

 

“A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel” - Luke 2:31

 

We are going to celebrate Christmas to remember the birth of Jesus Christ. Let us imagine how we are remembering it. Wearing new clothes, lot of cakes, eating sweets and snacks, different types of biriyani, consuming alcohol to celebrate our happiness with friends is Christmas nowadays. Is it Christmas celebration? Is this how we should share the gospel of Christmas? Is it what God wants? 

 

Gentiles also celebrate their festivals by wearing new clothes, eating good food, having lot of entertainments, engaging in lot of fun activities and getting drunk. We are also celebrating Christmas like this aren't we? What is the difference we are showing? 

 

Bible says, "For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost." Are we conveying His peace and righteousness to those who don’t know about it? He is the light of this world, are we introducing that real light to those who doesn't know? Let us not engage in empty celebrations like others but gift Christ to the Gentiles. This will be a meaningful Christmas. 

 

Let us not think about what type of dresses to buy but to whom shall we introduce Christ and act accordingly. We can gift good dresses and food to poor children in our vicinity. By doing so, we can reflect the selfless love of Christ. This type of celebration is what Jesus wants. Can we surrender ourselves to do so?
