Hospitality

 

“Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels” - Hebrews 13:2

 

In old times, all the houses in villages were built with sit outs. The motive for that is for the tired passersby to sit there and rest and go their way. In the times of Old Testament, our forefathers had a habit of "hospitality". Hospitality is treating guests that come to our homes. In recent times, hospitality is carried out within the small circle of friends and close family. 

 

In today's devotion we read about Abraham. He saw 3 men when he was sitting at the tent door in the heat of the day. We can see that, he ran to greet them bowed himself towards the ground cook them food and kept it infront of them and stood near them till they finished eating. He showed hospitality though he didn’t know those were angels. God interfered with Abraham about things that are going to happen through them. 

 

In Luke 16:19-31 we can read about another incident. He didn’t show hospitality towards Lazarus laid by his gate, and the soul of this rich man was tormented in hell. Yea, we should show hospitality towards widows and fatherless children. Do not ignore those who seek you and come to you for help. Those who have Christ's kindness help others in His name. Helping the poor and needy, doing charity will never being poverty. It will be a stepping stones for great success. 

 

My dear beloved in Christ! At least in this Christmas let us share with the needy if we come to know that they are hungry. Let us bring to our homes, neighbors those don’t know Jesus Christ or those who suffer for food and show hospitality with smiling faces, share the gospel and guide them to Christ.
