Why persecuting?

“…Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me…” – Acts 9:4

In a certain town there lived an atheist. As he was an unbeliever, he hated Christianity. He slandered and spoke ill of Christians and demeaned their activities. Suddenly he was paralyzed by a stroke. He was unable to move his hands and legs. He felt anguish at his plight. He could not bear to think of his immobility. Although he spent a lot of money for the treatment, he could not feel any improvement in his health. The doctors sent him home with no hope of recovery. He was asked to put in extra efforts for an improvement. At this juncture, a minister of God approached him and shared the divine love of Jesus and prayed for his recovery. His inability made him accept the truth. He professed his faith. He understood that whatever harm he did against Christians were done against Christ. He repented and confessed his sins and surrendered to God. The muscles were strengthened gradually and gained movement slowly. After his recuperation, he gave his testimony to others and glorified the Holy name of the Lord.

In the Bible, we see Saul entering every house and dragging men and women and committing them to prison. He dragged them forcefully and led a violent persecution. He did not stop with this. He still breathing threats and harms and murders against the disciples of the Lord, went to the higher priest and received to bind them and shut up in prison and was going to Damascus. When he was nearing Damascus, he heard a voice saying, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?” He asked, “Who are you, Lord?” God said to him, “I am Jesus of Nazareth whom you are persecuting.” At once with fear and tremble he surrendered himself to Jesus. He came to know God’s will for him through Ananias and he preached in the synagogues that Jesus is the son of God. He obeyed the great commission to tell the world about Jesus.

The troubles given to the creations of God are the troubles given to the creator, the Lord. So, let us not disregard anyone and hurt their heart with harsh words. Do we harass any member of our family, or relatives or co-workers? Let us remember that we do not grieve them but grieve God. Our loving heavenly father who searched and found Saul who persecuted him and the atheist, is standing beside us. Let us confess our sins and repent and reconcile to God so as to receive power to live in peace loving everyone.
