Daily Devotion (English) – 18.02.2021

With one accord

“…They were all with one accord in one place.” – Acts 2:1

In a certain village church, it was painful to notice that no youth attended the service. Under this circumstance one of the youths received salvation. All the other youngsters ignored him as if he were infected with coronavirus and they kept their distance. To their great surprise, another youth was saved by Christ within a month. Then both of them were weighed down with the burden for the souls of the other youth. So, they set aside time for prayer and with one accord they prayed with tears. The Holy Spirit began to work in them. One after the other they received salvation. There was a remarkable change in the church. The youth volunteered to conduct Sunday School and to do ministry of gospel. Needless to say, that the transformation took place after long-dormant years was the answer to the zealous prayer of the two youngsters with one accord. 

In the book of Acts, the Holy Spirit has repeated the phrase, “With one accord” nearly 10 times. This phrase is used 6 times for good works and in 4 places for evil work. Whenever the apostles gathered in one place with one accord prayer continued; place was shaken; power and gifts were manifested; signs and wonders were done; the number of disciples multiplied greatly. So, the Holy Spirit worked powerfully. Thus, there was a great revival. But at the same time when Ananias and Sapphira sold the possession and had agreed to test the spirit of the Lord together and to lie to the Holy Spirit, they grieved the Holy Spirit. Then when the Jews with one accord cast Stephen out of the city and stoned him, they were stiff-necked and they resisted the holy spirit though they received the law by the direction of angels and had not kept it.

Dear readers, we are intervened by the Holy Spirit. With whom and for what purpose have we come to one accord? Does the Holy Spirit work powerfully in the matter we agree about? Or does the matter we do together make the Holy Spirit grieve? It is really pathetic if we move with one accord like Ananias and Sapphira for honor, fame and selfish motive. Instead, if we with one mind and with one accord pray to God, serve Him, give Him and send ministers of gospel, our names will be definitely on the list if the history of revival in India is written. Let us all come together with one accord and shine for Christ in the world.
